Radiation output (full radiation field)

The detailed radiation result, including how much radiation reaches a point from every direction. Useful for in-depth comfort and façade studies.

Objects ( )

Cell-type marker (see conventions).

Direct SW Radation (W/m²)

Direct sunlight reaching the point.

Direct SW Radation horizontal (W/m²)

Direct sunlight on a horizontal surface at that point.

Direct SW Radiation relative to Max ( )

Direct sunlight as a fraction of the maximum possible (an easy 0–1 "how sunny" measure).

Diffuse SW Radiation (W/m²)

Scattered skylight reaching the point.

SW Radiation Reflected from upper Hemisphere (W/m²)

Reflected sunlight arriving from above (e.g. off building faces above you).

LW Radiation from Upper Hemisphere (W/m²)

Heat radiation from the sky and surfaces above. Low on a clear night (cold sky), high under cloud or beneath a tree canopy.

SW Radiation Reflected from lower Hemisphere (W/m²)

Reflected sunlight arriving from below (off the ground).

LW Radiation from Lower Hemisphere (W/m²)

Heat radiation from the ground and lower surfaces; high over hot paving.

ViewFactor Upward Sky / Buildings / Vegetation / Soil ( )

The share of the upward view taken up by sky, buildings, plants and ground respectively (they add up to 1). Explains where a point's radiation is coming from.

ViewFactor Downward Sky / Buildings / Vegetation / Soil ( )

The same breakdown for the downward-facing view.

Diffuse SW Radiation without secondary Source (W/m²)

Diffuse skylight, excluding light that has bounced off surroundings.

Diffuse SW Radiation secondary Source (W/m²)

The portion of diffuse light that comes from reflections off surroundings.

Sum SW Radiation (W/m²)

Total shortwave (sun) radiation at the point, all components combined.

LW Radiation Received North / East / South / West / Up / Down Facing (W/m²)

Heat radiation hitting a surface facing each direction; lets you study, e.g., how much heat a south-facing façade receives.

SW Radiation Rec. Reflected North / East / South / West / Up / Down (W/m²)

Reflected sunlight received on a surface facing each direction.

Dif SW Radiation Rec. North / East / South / West / Up / Down (W/m²)

Diffuse skylight received on a surface facing each direction.

Dir SW Radiation Rec. North / East / South / West / Up / Down (W/m²)

Direct sunlight received on a surface facing each direction.

SW Radiation Rec. North / East / South / West / Up / Down (W/m²)

Total shortwave received on a surface facing each direction (direct + diffuse + reflected).

Rec. SW Dir Solar MRT Fluxes (W/m²)

The direct-sun part of the radiation a person receives, as used in the comfort (MRT) calculation.

Rec. SW Env. MRT Fluxes (W/m²)

The diffuse + reflected sunlight part of the radiation a person receives.

Rec. LW Radiative MRT Fluxes (W/m²)

The longwave (heat) part of the radiation a person receives.

Mean Radiant Temperature (°C)

The combined radiation "felt temperature" at the point (see Key concepts).
